• Ownership and identity documents — proving who owns the vessel and establishing a clean chain of title
• Vessel-specific documents and forms — confirming the physical characteristics of the yacht and satisfying the flag office’s registration requirements

Category 1: Ownership and Identity Documents

1. Notarized Bill of Sale
This is the core legal document that evidences the transfer of ownership from the Seller to the Buyer. For LIYR registration purposes:

• The Bill of Sale must be in English
• It must be notarized (executed before and certified by a Notary Public)
• If the original document is in another language, a certified English translation is required
• The Bill of Sale should clearly identify both parties, the vessel, and the consideration paid

2. Certificate of Deletion from the Previous Registry
Before a vessel can be registered under LIYR, it must be deleted from its current registry. For a UK-registered yacht, this means applying to the UK Ship Register (Maritime and Coastguard Agency) for a Certificate of Deletion.

• The deletion process typically takes one to three weeks from the date of application
• The original Certificate of Deletion must be submitted to the LIYR agent in Langkawi
• The deletion should only be initiated once the Escrow arrangement is in place — you do not want to delete from the current registry before the transaction is secured

3. Original Certificate of Registry (Previous Registry)
The original Certificate of Registry from the current flag state — in the case of a UK vessel, the UK Ship Register Certificate of Registry — must be submitted as part of the LIYR application. This establishes the current legal status of the vessel and confirms the registered owner.

4. Clear Scanned Copy of the Owner’s Passport
A clear, legible scanned copy of the new owner’s valid passport is required. For foreign nationals, ensure the copy clearly shows the photo page and all identification details. If the registration is being handled under a Power of Attorney, a copy of the attorney’s identification may also be required.

Category 2: Vessel-Specific Documents and Forms

5. Agent Appointment Letter (Signed by the Owner)
The LIYR requires that foreign owners appoint a locally approved registered agent in Langkawi to submit and manage the registration application. The Agent Appointment Letter formally authorizes the agent to act on the owner’s behalf.

6. Ownership Declaration Form
This is a standard LIYR form completed and signed by the owner (or attorney in fact), declaring ownership of the vessel and confirming the accuracy of the particulars submitted for registration. If all particulars in the Certificate of Registry satisfy the flag office’s requirements, this form may be waived by the LIYR office.

7. Yacht Carving and Marking Form
This form records the physical markings required to be carved or marked on the vessel’s hull or structure. It confirms that the vessel’s official number, name, and port of registry will be marked in accordance with Malaysian maritime regulations.

8. Photographs of the Vessel
The LIYR requires clear photographs of the yacht, both exterior and interior:
